Moussem Festival: Aaleef

Intense, abrasive and wary of indulgence, Aaleef recreates a wandering, fantastical character of the night, immersed in an imaginary world at times still draped in a profusion of effects which might be described as orientalizing – Gérard Mayen, Mouvement.net

This is the third time Taoufiq Izeddiou and his Cie Anania have been invited to appear at the Moussem Festival. In Aaleef, Taoufiq Izeddiou goes in search of his Gnawa roots, accompanied by a Gnawa musician, a musicologist and a director in a bid to wage his own intimate and personal war. The struggle of a modern-day Moroccan, trapped between tradition and modernity.
Taoufiq Izeddiou is a dancer, choreographer and director of the On Marche dance festival in Marrakech and in that capacity leads the fight to make dance an accepted art form in Morocco.

Taoufiq Izeddiou: choreography and dance; Gnawa Maâlem Adil Amimi: musician; Najib Cherradi: singing and composition; Hassan Hammouche and Najib Cherradi: artistic advisors; Amandine André: script; Guy Raynaud: sound; Mohammed Bounaba: lighting; Cie Anania: production; Bonlieu Scène Nationale Annecy, Centre national de la danse de Pantin, Centre Chorégraphique national Tours, Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen Basse-Normandie, la Mission Départementale de la Culture Aveyron, MJC Rodez, Institut français, Service de Coopération et d’Action Culturelle de l’ambassade de France Rabat: coproduction.
