Moussem Festival herfst 2006

From 2 to 11 November 2006, the Moussem Festival will present a mix of music, poetry, theatre and dance from Belgium and abroad at various venues across Antwerp. Alongside works by contemporary artists, we delve deep into Islamic history in search of ‘unorthodox’ ways of experiencing Islam, of which Sufism is the most important. The Sufis, described by some as the free thinkers of Islam, were and remain innovators and broadening forces within the Islamic faith. Their philosophy continues to inspire Muslims and non-Muslims alike to this day. Through the very forms of expression of Sufism itself – poetry, dance and music – we also seek out the beauty of this philosophy and its points of contact with other spiritual traditions. “Many paths lead to God; I have chosen that of music and dance” Jalal Eddine RUMI (Sufi poet – 13th century). The festival kicks off at the Bourla with a concert by the Moroccan diva Amina Alaoui. Together with the Berchem Cultural Centre, we present theatre, dance and performance, and at the Zuiderpershuis World Cultures Centre we build our music programme around the theme of Sufism and Islamic mysticism. Even outside the festival period, you can come to us for music, youth theatre and film during the Moussem Days in collaboration with De Roma, Rataplan and Theater Froe Froe.
