Traditionally, Moroccan writers have expressed themselves in several languages: Arabic, Berber, French and Spanish. Immigration has broadened the linguistic scope of literary expression to include Dutch, English, German, Italian and Catalan. This diversity raises a number of questions regarding the redefinition of a national literature. It is a literature that has developed elsewhere and with references belonging to other cultural worlds. It is rooted in Western culture and imbued with the imagination of the country of origin. Through reading this new literature of Moroccan immigration, the perceptions that coexist in the treatment of Moroccan space and that of the host countries emerge. Migrants as they appear in today’s literature, unlike the first wave of immigrants, know how to navigate the European landscape.

After 50 years of Moroccan presence in Belgium, this literature certainly deserves to be catalogued. Belgium is home to a diverse group of Moroccan authors who write in Arabic, French and Dutch. Convinced of the quality of the literary works produced by Moroccan writers worldwide, the literary fair is an excellent platform for showcasing this diaspora literature. It is an opportunity to showcase writers through meetings, readings, and several conference-debates centred on their lives between two homelands. A real homeland (which may be the country of origin, or the host country, or both at once) and an imaginary homeland that is unique to their creativity and which can only be built through the vast homeland of writing… A homeland without any borders.
