GHAZAL
Arabic love poetry

The Ghazal is a poetic genre of Arabic origin that takes the form of a love poem. It flourished in Persia (10th century), then in India (12th century), before reaching Europe through various translations. Since time immemorial, Arabic poetry has celebrated love, beauty and desire without reserve, without false modesty. Love is deeply rooted in this literature. It perpetuates the history of emotions that span the ages. The Arab literary heritage is rich in works that teach the art of living, the art of loving and the art of ‘enjoying life’ without complexes or taboos. The impressive collection of contemporary works shows that love remains the essential and undeniable hallmark of the most celebrated Arab-Muslim literary and artistic creation. This literary and musical evening could be a simple gift idea to celebrate love.

Moussem invites you to a poetic and musical evening to mark Valentine’s Day. The Egyptian poet Fatma Qandil and the Iraqi poet Saadi Youssef will transport you to the heights of contemporary Arabic love poetry. The Franco-Algerian singer Mamia Cherif will provide the accompanying music, with Léo Montana accompanying her on the piano.
